Benefits of Maternity Reflexology
It is said to help with common ailments throughout pregnancy, such as morning sickness, heartburn, constipation, back pain, pelvic girdle pain and stress. Later on in pregnancy it can helping prepare someone for birth. As reflexologists we try to work on the production of the important hormone oxytocin, and also stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (promote relaxation.) In addition there is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that reflexology may help a baby turn into the right position. There are a number of reflexology techniques and acu - points we can use for this. Also although there is no evidence to suggest that reflexology can bring on a premature labour, many people have suggested it helped them post 37 weeks.
A bit about me
I am a former NHS nurse with over 15 years experience of working in healthcare. I decided to become a reflexologist due to its holistic approach. I feel that I am able to transfer my caring , empathetic, approach from my nursing career into helping support people with a number of conditions, enabling them to feel the benefits of treatment. I am very fortunate to be able to volunteer at the Hospice in the Weald weekly to support patients and relatives. I find this very rewarding. I also have my own children and have my own experience of stressful pregnancies. I trained with the International Institute of Reflexology and use the original Ingham method. The IIR is the only reflexology school licensed to teach the Original Ingham Method® of Reflexology. It is the combined work of the late Eunice Ingham and her nephew Dwight C. Byers, the world's leading authority on Foot Reflexology. I also undertook my Maternity course with Sally Earlham (who is also a lead practitioner in maternity reflexology.)
I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists (MAR) and trained by the IIR
